Shyam Krishnakumar

Shyam is the Executive Director and Co-Founder of The Pranava Institute, and currently heads the Research Advisory work at Pranava. At Pranava, Shyam’s work engages with key questions around India’s digital transformation, including regulatory frameworks for emerging technologies, India’s cybersecurity and technology ethics.

Background 

At Pranava, Shyam's mission is to support global organizations to succeed in the Indian market. Shyam combines a deep understanding of geopolitics and political dynamics, comfort with New Delhi’s regulatory ecosystem and deep technology background to provide risk advisory and foresight across a range of rapidly evolving technology sectors, including data and platform regulation, digital markets and antitrust, electronics and semiconductor manufacturing, telecom and 5G and Crypto/Web3 regulation. Shyam served as a Visiting Faculty at the Daksha Fellowship, India’s first law and technology fellowship program, where he taught Conceptual Foundations in Technology and Public Policy. Shyam is a Computer Science graduate and holds a Masters in Political Science with a specialisation in International Relations.

Work at a glance

Shyam spoke at the University of Cambridge, Leverhume Center for the Future of Intelligence on our Design Beyond Deception Project, highlighting the key learnings and insights focused on creating inclusive digital futures

Shyam was part of a week- long workshop on Fair Patterns for Online Interfaces held at the Lorentz Center at University of Leiden, Netherlands, which brought together academics, policy folks and individuals in the industry working on Dark Patterns and Deceptive Design.

Shyam was an Expert Panelist and Speaker at The Future of Digital Well Being Conference. This was the first interdisciplinary gathering initiated by Matthew J. Dennis in collaboration with KNAW and ESDiT Research Programme for academia and industry to promote wellbeing in the digital world.. 

Shyam co-organised the UNESCO Global Education Monitoring Report on Technology in Education Consultation 2024
